Your role
CBC Whitehorse is looking for an experienced reporter/editor to join the Yukon Morning team. As the morning newsreader, you will present the weekday newscasts to audiences listening live each morning on the radio and digital platforms. You will play an integral editorial role in gathering, preparing and presenting the daily news, keeping our audiences informed about what’s happening each morning across the territory.
You should also feel comfortable chatting live on the air with the morning show host and tech/director to add to the vibrant flavour of the show. You’re the kind of journalist who loves chasing breaking news. You’re not intimidated by the prospect of changing lineups and rewriting newscasts under tight deadlines. You embrace the challenge of keeping your newscasts as up-to-date as possible, chasing stories yourself, cutting audio clips from morning show interviews, adding context and additional content to ensure listeners get the full story.
You understand the diverse and changing population in the North, and the importance of broadening the range of perspectives, experiences and points of view reflected on our programming, especially those from people who have been traditionally underrepresented in the media. In your work, you will ensure CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful and immediate.
