Gwich’in Culture Teacher - Grades 8-12

Join F.H. Collins Secondary School in Whitehorse as a Gwich’in Language and Culture Teacher for grades 8-12. Drive cultural engagement and connection with students during the  school year.

The role is pivotal for fostering the Gwich’in Language & Culture program. You will promote Gwich’in language through positive interactions with students and adapt curriculum to meet individual needs. This position emphasizes collaboration with fellow educators and community language professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver Gwich’in language instruction to secondary school students

• Create engaging and culturally relevant lesson plans

• Collaborate with school staff to support student learning

• Foster relationships with parents and caregivers

• Promote Gwich’in culture within the school environment

Requirements:

• Strong proficiency in Gwich’in language (read, write, speak)

• Commitment to cultural awareness and language development

• Effective classroom management demonstrated in practice

• Yukon Teacher Certification required

• Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector compliance
