Position Overview

Department of Education, Yukon government

Position: Temporary Socials, English, Foods
FTE: 1.0
Location: Whitehorse, Yukon
Assignment: Socials 10, English 10, Foods 10-12
Start Date: August 20, 2026
End Date: June 11, 2027

Responsibilities

Teach Socials 10, English 10, and Foods 10–12 to secondary students, planning, organizing, and delivering classroom instruction and experiential learning activities.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent
  • Recent experience teaching English or Social Studies at a secondary level
  • Experience planning, organizing, and teaching secondary students in hands‑on experiential programs or courses
  • Experience with First Nations ways of knowing, doing, and being to support students academically, socially, and behaviorally
  • Experience adapting and delivering programming through a variety of instructional interventions and adaptations that help all students succeed
  • Undergraduate or graduate level courses or teachable subject of English would be an asset
  • Teaching experience, training, or academic background in Foods or Nutrition would be an asset
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
  • Superior classroom management, planning, and organizational skills
  • Willingness and ability to teach all relevant Learning Standards and foster an experiential learning philosophy
  • Ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet a range of learning abilities while incorporating cultural values and traditions into curricular components
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working with students, parents, administration, and other staff members
  • Ability to differentiate instruction using current assessment‑for‑learning pedagogy and practice
  • Willingness and ability to work as part of a professional team to promote and collaborate on school initiatives and the total school program
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population
Conditions of Employment
  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
  • Yukon Teacher Certification
