Reporting to the Director of Governance, and as an active member of the senior management team, the Communications Manager provides strategic communication and public relation services, advice, and support for the Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) Government. The position requires considerable knowledge of government programs, policy and communication strategic planning processes. The position is responsible for planning, developing and implementing a comprehensive integrated communications program that reflects the KDFN government strategic direction, objectives, priorities, programs and initiatives.
The position is also responsible for mentoring and directing staff and trainees.
An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field;
- Experience providing strategic communications and public relations services, including media relations and public engagement;
- Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and managing marketing, communications, and public relations strategies across multiple platforms;
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and preparing reports for leadership or decision-making purposes; and
- Demonstrated experience managing a team, including staff supervision and budget oversight.
- Strong strategic communications skills in a government or public-facing environment
- Confidence handling sensitive or high-pressure communication issues
- Ability to build trust and work closely with leadership, departments, and partners
- Clear, engaging communication skills, including writing, presenting, and facilitating conversations
- Ability to stay organized and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
- Understanding of First Nations cultures and communities, with comfort using digital tools and social media
- Satisfactory pre-employment criminal records check
- A valid Yukon Driver’s license, acceptable abstract and personal transportation
Salary: $82,464.20 – $ per annum ($45.31 – $79.79 per hour) Level 8
