This posting is to fill a permanent position and a one-year term position, working 75 hours bi-weekly.

The Policy, Planning and Communications Branch provides expert analysis, policy advice, and clear communication to guide decision-making. The team works closely with partners across government, industry, and communities to ensure decisions are informed, strategic, and impactful. Our work ensures a consistent, forward-looking approach to government policy and planning. As Senior Policy Advisor, you will lead complex policy initiatives that influence programs and inform decisions at the highest levels.
You’ll provide strategic advice to the Minister, support operational directors, and represent Yukon on intergovernmental committees to advance agreements, regulatory frameworks, and policy positions that shape the territory’s economic future. - Degree in Economics, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field.
- Experience preparing briefing material, providing advice, and developing strategic options to support policy decision-making by senior management in a government setting.
- Experience making recommendations to decision makers on the application, interpretation and development of policies and guidelines.
- Experience contributing to program, legislation or regulation development or strategic planning.
- Experience working on domestic or international trade files would be considered an asset.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.
Desired Knowledge, Skills And Suitability- Understanding of Yukon’s legislative and economic context in order to recognize issues, agreements or events which will impact Yukon, Government of Yukon and the Department of Economic Development.
- Excellent research, analytical and writing skills to summarize complex issues, and provide options and recommendations to senior management.
- Strong communication skills with an ability to effectively work within a team and coordinate with other departments, governments, and private sector partners.
- Ability to collaborate with different private and public sector partners and effectively represent and advance the Yukon’s interests on economic development issues.
- The ability to work independently under broad direction, to self-manage workloads, meet deadlines and achieve results.
Job Requirements:
10% travel
Some travel within Canada may be required.
