Natural Resource Officer

Become a pivotal Natural Resource Officer with the Government of Yukon in Whitehorse, enhancing environmental compliance in a full-time role. Address regulatory adherence for mine development while collaborating with local First Nations.

This permanent position is part of the Major Mines unit under Energy, Mines and Resources. You will employ a progressive enforcement strategy ensuring compliance with environmental legislation that governs resource management. Collaborating closely with governmental and First Nation entities, you will ensure responsible resource development practices across the Yukon.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct inspections and enforcement activities on mine projects

• Ensure compliance with resource management legislation

• Collaborate with federal and territorial governments

• Engage with First Nations regarding resource projects

• Prepare reports based on inspection findings

Requirements:

• Degree or diploma in natural resources management

• Experience with legislation and resource management

• Familiarity with environmental stewardship

• Valid Class 5 driver’s license

• Medical clearance and firearms license required
