Your role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Long-Term Care, the Manager, Maintenance and Projects provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for maintenance services and capital projects across multiple long-term care homes in Whitehorse. The position ensures building systems and infrastructure operate safely and efficiently while supporting fiscally responsible operations, capital planning, and the delivery of safe, resident- and staff-centred environments.

The Manager provides leadership and direction to maintenance staff, establishes consistent maintenance standards and performance expectations, oversees preventative maintenance programs and the prioritization, tracking and completion of maintenance work.

Desired knowledge, skills and suitability

  • Knowledge of preventative and corrective maintenance programs.
  • nowledge of project management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety, regulatory and facility-related standards such as CSA standards applicable to healthcare environments and operation/maintenance of healthcare facilities.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and solve complex operational problems.
  • Experience managing contractors and service providers.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and capital planning.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated critical thinking, decision-making and cross-cultural awareness. It may be helpful for you to review “The job interview process”.

  • Regular travel between long-term care sites and occasional travel within Yukon.
  • Walking, standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, and occasional use of tools and equipment.
  • Exposure to building systems, construction activities, noise, dust, heat, cold and fumes.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment as applicable.
  • Potential exposure to second-hand smoke, pet therapy programs and latex products.
