Yukon University is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support the Yukon Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (YSPOR) and People with lived and living experience (PWLE) initiatives within the YukonU Research Centre. Reporting to the Evaluation and Research Professional, this position provides coordination, research and operational support that contributes to the effective delivery of research activities and programs.
Duties:- Support qualitative and quantitative research and evaluation activities including literature reviews, environmental scans, data collection, and basic analysis.
- Assist in the coordination of research projects including scheduling meetings, supporting community engagement activities, and maintaining project documentation.
- Contribute to the preparation of research ethics applications, reports, presentations, communication, including plain language summaries.
- Support engagement with community partners, including people with lived and living experience (PWLE), service providers, and Yukon First Nations, ensuring respectful and culturally appropriate interactions.
- Assist with the organization of workshops, gatherings, and knowledge sharing events.
- Identifies issues related to data quality or project coordination and flags for supervisors.
- Exercises judgment with confidential research information using ethics protocols.
- Completed undergraduate degree in health sciences, social sciences, public health, Indigenous studies, or a related field.
- Up to two (2) years of experience supporting research, evaluation, or community projects.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Foundational understanding of research methods including literature reviews and basic qualitative or quantitative approaches.
- Ability to work respectfully with diverse communities.
- Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity, particularly in relation to Indigenous communities.
- Understanding of ethical research practices (TCPS2 training considered an asset).
- Strong: organizational skills, attention to detail, written and verbal communication.
- Experience working with northern, rural, or Indigenous communities.
- Knowledge of OCAP® principles.
- Experience supporting community engagement activities.
