Transitional Support Worker

This posting will be used to fill auxiliary on call positions working 80 bi-weekly.

This posting will also be used for Anticipatory full-time term positions.

It will establish a 6-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.

Transitional Support Services provides trauma-informed and relationship-based care to children and youth through therapeutic group homes and outreach services. The young people we work with have often experienced trauma and loss and may present with a wide range of adaptive behaviours.

We are looking for Transitional Support Workers who are dedicated to creating safe and supportive environments for our children and youth, and who are committed to working from an empathetic and strengths-based approach. This takes energy, patience, adaptability, creativity and flexibility in the workplace. We are looking for individuals who are able to remain calm and focused during crisis. An individual who has excellent decision making skills, and who are reliable.

Additionally, we are looking for individuals who understand, and are committed to, working collaboratively in a Yukon First Nation cultural context, and who have a strong understanding of intergenerational trauma.

• post-secondary education or training in the areas of child and youth care, counselling, psychology, sociology, social work or other related fields;
• Experience working with and supporting vulnerable children and youth who may present challenging adaptive behaviours and/or children and youth with complex care needs such as developmental disabilities;
• Experience working toward individualized goals with children and youth through recreational, vocational, life skills, daily living or educational programs in a collaborative and team-based context.

Candidates who have education, training and /or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications may be equally considered.

• Ability to provide care and support to individuals in a home like or 24/7 living environment;
• A genuine interest in clients of all ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds; particularly Yukon First Nations and a strong awareness of intergenerational trauma;
