The OpportunityAt Baptist Housing, every day is an opportunity to help seniors experience life well in supportive communities. Join our team for a paid training opportunity as a Health Care Support worker via the Health Career Access Program (HCAP).
About HCAPHCAP is a provincial program designed for individuals aspiring to pursue a healthcare career. Participants begin as a Health Care Support Worker, receive paid training, and transition into a Health Care Assistant (HCA) role. Upon successful completion, candidates can register as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry. Participants agree to remain employed as a Care Aide at Baptist Housing for 12 months following graduation.
Aboutthe Role
Temporary full-time position while in the program. The Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) provides non-clinical, non-direct care support to residents, clients, families, and visitors in long-term care and assisted living settings, under the supervision of regulated healthcare professionals and following established care plans and safety protocols.
Responsibilities- Support residents with daily routines and overall comfort
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment
- Assist the care team under the direction of healthcare professionals
- Communicate respectfully with residents, families, and team members
- Participate fully in HCAP training, education, and practicum
- Demonstrate compassion, professionalism, and person-centred care
- Grade 10 completion, including English 10 (or equivalent), with strong English communication skills
- If educated outside of Canada, a recent English Language Proficiency Test (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, CLBPT) is required
- Not currently working as a Health Care Assistant and no prior HCA training completed in BC
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident (proof required)
- Able to commit to full-time paid training (3–6 months) and full-time college education (approximately 6 months, including practicum)
Your total compensation includes a wage of $26.31, as outlined by Fraser Health’s HCAP program. Eligible for extended health and dental benefits following six months of employment until the end of HCAP schooling.
