* Job Duties:
** The Department of History in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track faculty member in the area of Early American history (to 1877) beginning August 2026. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in history, research, and service to the university, community, and profession. Research and teaching expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and may include the ability to teach women’s history, African-American history, public history or digital history
** Job Details:
** The successful candidate will be able to teach surveys of US history (to and from 1877), modern world history, and upper-level courses in their areas of expertise, including surveys of Colonial US history and the history of the American Revolution. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society.
The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community. The teaching load is 4 courses per semester.
** Responsibilities**:
Full-Time teaching responsibilities include History 124 or 125 (US History to/since 1877), CORE 120 (Historical Perspectives), and upper-level courses in areas of expertise. Research expectations include conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations and the discipline as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest.
Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of formats, including in-person, online and/or in a hybrid format. All students, faculty, and staff are required to ensure their materials are digitally accessible and utilize standard technology platforms supported by UW-Whitewater. Examples include, but are not limited to, Navigate, Canvas, and Microsoft Office applications – including Outlook, which is essential for university email communications and scheduling.

ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2026; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2027 in advance of their first scheduled review.
