** The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a lecturer in gender and health studies beginning August 2026.This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate health courses in Women’s and Gender Studies. Teaching expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and include upper division courses and contributions to general education.
** Job Details**:
The successful candidate will be able to teach an introductory Sex, Gender, & Health course, 1-2 additional courses in their area of expertise, and contribute offerings of Individual & Society as part of our general education program. An upper division course on a) reproductive health, b) gender, health, and disability, c) LGBTQ health, d) gender and multicultural/Indigenous health studies, e) gender and mental health/counseling, or f) gender, technology and health are among Women’s and Gender Studies strategic priorities.
The candidate also will be expected to embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.
** Responsibilities**:
Full-Time teaching responsibilities include a 5/4 load. Required course offerings include the introductory Sex, Gender, and Health course, 1-2 upper-division courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, and offerings of Individual & Society as part of our general education program. Upper division courses could include classes on a) reproductive health, b) gender, health, and disability, c) LGBTQ health, d) gender and multicultural/Indigenous health studies, e) gender and mental health/counseling, or f) gender, technology and health, among others.
Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of formats, including in-person, online and/or in a hybrid format. All students, faculty, and staff are expected to ensure their materials are digitally accessible and utilize standard technology platforms supported by UW-Whitewater. Examples include, but are not limited to, Navigate, Canvas, and Microsoft Office applications – including Outlook, which is essential for university email communications and scheduling.
** Department Information**:
The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at UW-Whitewater is one of the longest-standing Women’s and Gender Studies programs in the Midwest. The first Women’s Studies course was taught in 1971, followed by the development of a minor in 1974, and a major in 1991. Now one of 15 departments in the College of Letters and Sciences (), the department of Women’s and Gender Studies () is comprised of 2 full-time dedicated faculty, 2 instructional academic staff, and 20 affiliated members from programs across the university.
The department offers a major, minor, and certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies, a certificate in LGBTQ Studies, and co-sponsors with Race and Ethnic Studies a Diversity Leadership Certificate.##
