ResponsibilitiesThis position functions as a Cook responsible for the preparation and service of meals for recruits’ staff, guests, and program participants using approved processes, recipes, menus, and reports. The Cook prepares meals, serves meals, cleans all areas of the operation during and after meal service, and performs tasks related to food production, sanitation of premises, HACCP reporting, meal service, and food storage procedures.
Education and ExperienceEducational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
One year of experience in quantity cooking and food preparation.
Familiarization with Public Health standards, sanitation standards, and departmental guidelines.

Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.

New hires to the MDOC and returning employees after more than two years will complete the Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) of either 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non‑custody new employee training.
