Transport Specialist II
The Transport Specialist II is a high-impact position responsible for the professional and highly efficient management of all decedent removal, transportation, and dispatch operations. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, compassionate customer service, and strong leadership to train removal staff, manage complex logistics, and drive continuous process improvements, maintaining the highest standards of dignity and professionalism for every service provided. This crucial role operates on a 40-hour work/5days a week work week schedule and requires a willingness to alternate schedules to meet the needs of the department for essential mortuary operations.
This role includes hands-on dispatch duties, staff training, quality control via ride-alongs, and administrative management of departmental resources and documentation systems (including HMIS).

- Logistics, Dispatch, and Administration
- Optimal Dispatching:
Manage and oversee removal process, time management and efficiency of calls being dispatched - Data Entry & Logging:
Maintain quality control over all data entry, ensuring information is accurate and comprehensive. Work with leadership to guarantee information in HMIS, logs, PEIs and ensure notes are accurate and concise. - Arrival Protocol:
Oversee that the quality and professionalism of all decedent handling and check in procedures are being followed. - Resource Oversight:
Oversee and assign departmental assets, including company vehicles and phones, during the assigned shift. - Paperwork:
Print and manage all essential documents, including embalming authorizations and minimal preparation forms. - Cross Function:
Accurately check and list arrangement appointment times and communicate effectively with the Mortuary Office, Arrangements Department, and families regarding any issues pertaining to the removal process.
- Quality Control:
Conduct regular ride-alongs to directly verify that removal personnel are professional, courteous, and uphold high standards when meeting with family members. - Staff Development:
Develop, create, and lead comprehensive training programs for incoming dispatchers and drivers on removal protocols, paperwork, SOPs and efficient call completion. - Enhance Rose Hills Presence:
Actively work to optimize internal resources and scheduling to minimize all 3rd party hired calls. - Schedule Management:
Manage and coordinate schedules to optimize in-house removals - Process Compliance:
Work with management to draft SOPs, policies and procedures relating to dispatch duties and removals and ensure staff strictly adheres to safety rules and attendance policies. - Lost case monitoring and follow up to ensure policies are being followed.
- Process Improvement:
Promote continuous improvement by recommending process enhancements, implementing solutions, and measuring impact on efficiency and service delivery. - Resource Management:
Prioritize staffing and internal resources over third-party services. Maintain 80%-90% in house removal rate. - Data Management:
Create and update all dispatch Excel spreadsheets for tracking metrics (including case count) and performance. - Vehicle & Equipment:
Oversee company vehicle maintenance and costs, promptly communicating all necessary repairs, and maintaining office and facility supplies/equipment (copiers, printers). - Issue Resolution:
Manage complex operational issues, including lost cases, coroner sign outs, embalming authorizations, holds for autopsies, and troubleshooting HMIS issues.
