Overview
After School Program Leader - Older Youth Programs (Flexible Schedule in El Monte/Whittier/Pico Rivera, CA)
Be among the first applicants for the After School Program Leader role at L.E.A.R.N. The position supports after-school programming for older youth with a flexible schedule across multiple sites in El Monte, Whittier, and Pico Rivera, CA.
Responsibilities- Lead a group of assigned students in an academic, physical activity/sports, or enrichment activity.
- Ensure the supervision and safety of assigned students at all times during program hours.
- Provide instruction in academic or enrichment activities using program materials.
- Provide small-group tutoring and/or homework assistance.
- Serve as a positive adult role model for children in the program through appropriate dress, speech, and attitude.
- Arrive punctually to meet on-site responsibilities.
- Engage youth by following, implementing, and assisting in lesson plans.
- Assist in set up, break down, and ongoing maintenance to keep the program site clean and organized.
- Promote positive interactions between students in accordance with child safety guidelines.
- Communicate student needs to the Site Coordinator, teachers, school administration, and parents as appropriate.
- Ensure daily program requirements are met (e.g., check-in/out on the Daily Attendance Roster and distribution/consumption of healthy snacks).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from High School
- Passing score on the district examination for Instructional Assistants (distributed in-office during the interviewing process)
- Experience working with youth in an educational setting is strongly desired.
- Interest in working with, mentoring, and tutoring at-risk youth.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, peers, school staff and others.
- Ability to effectively tutor students in assigned subject(s).
- Ability to work as part of a team and act as a positive role model for students.
- Ability to write basic reports summarizing events.
- Desireable ability to speak Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Vietnamese at many sites.
- Competence with Microsoft Office:
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to lift and carry small loads (up to 25 lbs.) and stand for prolonged periods.
- Must complete Live Scan - Department of Justice and FBI Criminal Background Check.
- Must complete TB Health Clearance.
- Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
- Must be willing and able to travel anywhere in the region LEARN serves for a job assignment, off-site meetings, trainings, and events.
- Must be eligible to accept all job assignments.
- Employment type:
Part-time - Compensation: 21 USD per hour
- Schedule:
Part-time with availability at least 2 days per week, Monday through Friday, during program hours (primarily after school until 6:00 PM) and occasionally on weekends.
The work calendar aligns with the academic calendars of partner school districts. This position is a Part-Time Casual, non-benefited, non-exempt, hourly role.
