Whittier, CA (within 11 school sites in the Whittier City School District) Job Type: Part time

Hours:

Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri - 2:15pm - 6:00pm;
Tues - 12:15pm - 6pm Rate: $18.25/hour

The P.E. Coach is responsible for leading structured sports and recreational activities for groups of 20-23 elementary and middle school students (TK-8th grade). This role involves supervising students, planning and leading engaging sports lessons, and creating a positive and active environment. The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, and passionate about youth development through physical activity.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and engage students in structured physical education activities from school dismissal until 6 p.m.
  • Plan and lead sports and recreation lessons, including warm-up drills, skill-building exercises, and organized games.
  • Ensure students’ safety and promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and physical fitness.
  • Sign in students, distribute supper, and monitor participation.
  • Rotate through different student groups while coaching various sports and activities.
  • Maintain discipline and enforce program rules to ensure a respectful and fun environment.
  • Attend mandatory meetings, training sessions, and occasional field trips.
  • Follow program policies and procedures while implementing lesson plans.
  • Completely required CPR/First Aid training and participate in on-the-job training.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with children in a physical education, coaching, or recreational setting.
  • 48 college credits/AA or equivalency test
  • Knowledge of sports, fitness activities, and age-appropriate physical education practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to create a fun, structured, and inclusive environment.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Passion for youth development and promoting active lifestyles.
