Instructor/Assistant Professor of English as a Second Language (ESL) and English – Tenure Track
Provide high‑quality, engaging instruction in ESL courses in addition to first‑ and second‑year English general‑education courses. The faculty load is the equivalent of 30 credits per academic year. Responsibilities include teaching, advising, curriculum development, assessment, student recruitment, service, and participation in program, division, and department meetings.
Responsibilities- Teach ESL courses primarily face‑to‑face on campus, with occasional virtual and online delivery.
- Teach first‑ and second‑year English general‑education courses.
- Advise students and support program‑related activities.
- Offer office hours for academic advising and student consultation.
- Assist students through the registration process.
- Serve on college committees and contribute to program and departmental meetings.
- Develop course syllabi and promote learning outcomes.
- Evaluate student performance and course, program, and college outcomes.
- Recommend texts and teaching aids.
- Master’s degree in English from a regionally accredited college or university.
- One or more recognized ESL certifications (TESOL, TEFL, TESL, or CELTA).
- Evidence of two years of successful collegiate‑level experience teaching multilingual learners.
- Demonstrated knowledge of second‑language acquisition theory, scaffolding techniques, and communicative language teaching.
- Proficiency in written, oral, and interpersonal communication.
- Experience promoting learning in and out of the classroom.
- Commitment to assessment, professional development, and a collaborative team approach.
- Experience delivering distance education, hybrid, and/or online classes.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Advising and student support experience.
- Commitment to the community college mission.
- Ability to plan and facilitate student extracurricular activities and trips.
Successful applicant will be required to pass an acceptable criminal background check.
Physical RequirementsTypical responsibilities include occasional lifting up to 10 pounds and repetitive motions. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Incumbents may be subject to field work, weekend work, and travel.
