Your Role as a Police Sergeant

As a Police Sergeant, you will lead a patrol team on a 12-hour Panama Shift with every other weekend off (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), rotating between day and night shifts every 4 months. You’ll supervise field operations, respond to complex calls, review reports, and mentor officers to uphold the department’s high standards of service and professionalism.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing patrol operations and critical incidents
  • Coordinating investigations and ensuring proper evidence handling
  • Supporting officer development through coaching and training
  • Promoting community engagement and trust through proactive policing
  • Ensuring compliance with department policies and legal standards
  • Currently employed with a law enforcement agency or engaged in law enforcement duties within the last 72 months
  • Honorable standing with previous department
  • Not under investigation with previous department
  • Successfully complete 12-month probationary period
  • Intermediate Peace Officer Certification

Preferred

  • 10+ consecutive years of Active Police Service
  • Master Peace Officer Certification

  • Advanced law enforcement operations and legal procedures
  • Supervisory practices, including evaluations and discipline
  • Crime scene management and evidence protocols
  • Emergency response and interagency coordination

Ability to:

  • Lead, supervise, and evaluate officers
  • Interpret and enforce policies and procedures
  • Train and mentor team members
  • Respond effectively to emergencies
  • Communicate clearly and tactfully with staff, the public, and partner agencies

  • Incident command and scene control
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation
  • Report writing and public speaking
  • Decision-making under pressure
