Primary

Purpose:

Patrols district property to protect all students, personnel, and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism. Provide a safe and secure environment through building and establishing meaningful relationships with students and staff and proactively interacting with the school community to ensure the enforcement of city and state laws, preservation of public order, protection of life and the prevention, detection, or investigation of crime.

Works independently.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Texas Peace Officer License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)

Clear and valid Texas driver's license

School Resource Officer Certification (#4064) preferred

Active Shooter Certification (#2195) preferred

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Knowledge of Texas Criminal Code, Education Code and Traffic Code, Wichita Falls City and Wichita County Ordinances, Criminal Procedures, Juvenile Law and court proceedings

General knowledge of criminal investigation, interview techniques, police report writing, and criminal laws

Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms, tasers, and handcuffs

Bonded as required by Texas Education Code §37.081(h)

Ability to pass required physical, psychiatric, and drug tests

Ability to work well with youth and adults

Use of sound judgement

Experience:

Background in law enforcement or related work experience

A minimum of 1 - 5 years of work experience in law enforcement in a traditional law enforcement agency or school environment required.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Public Relations

* Create professional relationships with students and staff.

* Officer's uniforms shall be professional in appearance. Uniform shall be clean. Shirt must be tucked in and a district badge shall be visible at all times.

* Act as a resource person in the area of law enforcement education.

* Counsel with parents and staff as necessary.

* Use common sense approach to enforcement and conduct self in a professional manner.

Law Enforcement

* Patrol assigned campus(es) and routes walking or driving within district jurisdiction.

* Provide law enforcement resources when necessary to maintain the peace on District property and campuses and at District-sponsored events. May restrict any person from entering on to District property.

* Respond to all calls from campuses concerning crisis situations, accidents, and reports of crime.

* Investigate criminal offenses occurring within district's jurisdiction.

* Collect and preserve evidence for criminal investigations of violations of law on District property or at District-sponsored events including witness statements and physical evidence.

* Notify the District's Chief of Police of every criminal investigation.

* Take enforcement action on criminal offenses when appropriate and in accordance with laws, policies, and procedures.

* Arrest perpetrators, file appropriate charges, and ensure placement in jail or juvenile detention centers for law violations as necessary.

* Write effective legal incident reports.

* Testify in court as needed.

* Work cooperatively with other police agencies to share information and provide other assistance.

Safety

* Officers are required to carry and monitor district issued radio for communication with campus administrators.

* Help provide traffic control at athletic events, school closings or openings, or at any other time.

* Provide protection to or escort district personnel as needed.

* Operate all equipment including firearms according to established safety procedures.

* Use sound judgment and effectively communicate with and elicit information from emotionally distraught students, staff, parents, and citizens.

* Transport students in custody to appropriate facility in district-owned vehicle.

* Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
