The Security Officer III is the most senior security officer, supporting the Security Supervisor with department goals and objectives. Requirements include patrolling grounds, conducting initial investigations, providing direction to patients, staff, and visitors, answering the hospital telephone switchboard, and responding to the fire alarm system and emergency response phone line.

Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol hospital grounds to monitor and mitigate unusual occurrences such as trespassers, vandalism, and emergencies.
  • Conduct initial investigations as needed and provide direction and assistance to patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Perform temporary switchboard duties, including answering the hospital telephone switchboard, fire alarm system, and emergency response phone line.
  • Monitor and direct daily activities of junior security officers as needed.
  • Adjust daily activities of assigned security officers to meet department objectives.
  • Open hospital gates as appropriate and provide direction and assistance to visitors.
  • Write reports and document incidents or events in and around the hospital grounds.
  • Download video requests from the Rights Protection department.
  • Check points of ingress and egress to prevent unauthorized departures/escapes.
  • Investigate and document unusual incidents such as thefts, fires, vehicle accidents, unauthorized departures, and weather‑related events.
  • During the absence of the Security Supervisor, perform administrative duties such as preparing the department schedule and reviewing reports.
  • Represent the security department in meetings and events at the direction of the Security Supervisor or Directors.
  • Report to areas when fire alarms sound, determine the nature of the emergency, and reset alarms as needed.
  • During a fire emergency, escort the fire department to facilitate access and mitigate impact to the hospital, staff, and patients.
  • Provide crisis intervention, assist staff with controlling disruptive or combative patients or guests, and escort disruptive people off hospital grounds.
  • Operate state vehicles to transport patients, employees, and visitors on or off the hospital grounds.
  • Maintain inspection forms to ensure preventive maintenance and safe operation of vehicles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including serving in a supporting role for disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation.

  • Attend work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule, a rotating schedule, extended shift, or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
