City of Wichita Falls – School Crossing Guard

Base pay range: $12.75/hr – $12.75/hr

The purpose of this position is to ensure the safe movement and welfare of school‑aged pedestrians at designated crosswalks before and during school dismissal.

• Constantly monitor vehicular traffic and the activity and movement of children toward, in, to, and across streets.
• Lead children across roads or intersections, ensuring safety by keeping them behind the curb until it is safe to cross.
• Communicate traffic and crossing rules and other information to pedestrians.
• Record and report vehicle license numbers of traffic violators to law enforcement.
• Report malfunctioning traffic or warning signs to the appropriate authority.

• Maintain regular and reliable attendance and comply with schedules, which may change without advance notice.
• Ensure safety of school children at assigned locations; escort children across roadway; instruct on proper traffic regulations.
• Provide customer service and communicate effectively with the public using hand signals, signs, or traffic signals.
• Take down vehicle identification information on traffic violators and present to superiors or police; report malfunctioning traffic or warning signals.

• Driver’s License:
  Required – N Type.
• Must be able to traverse a 150' walkway at 4 feet per second and climb curbs and medians up to 12 inches unassisted.

No experience required.
