Construction Controller (Hands-On Role)

Wichita, KS | $65,000 – $85,000 | Full Benefits

We are a family-owned specialty concrete contractor based in Wichita, KS with approximately 40 employees and $5–$10M in annual revenue. We perform concrete subcontract work (foundations, flatwork, site concrete) for national retailers such as Walmart, Tractor Supply, Target, and others across the Midwest and beyond.

We are actively expanding into full general contracting and need a true construction-experienced controller to help us scale profitably while keeping the books clean and cash flow predictable.

This is a hands‑on role that is a single-person accounting department reporting directly to the owner. You will function as our Construction Controller while handling all day‑to‑day bookkeeping and transactional work (except payroll, which is handled separately).

• Full-cycle construction accounting (percentage-of-completion, WIP schedule, over/under billings, job costing)
• Weekly 13-week cash‑flow forecasting and early warning on cash crunches
• Project and company budgeting + variance analysis
• A/R collections follow‑up and aging management
• A/P entry, bill scheduling, and check/run preparation for owner signature
• Identifying profit leaks and working with field teams to fix them
• Monthly close and clear, actionable financial reports (P&L by job, cash forecast, etc.)
• All day‑to‑day bookkeeping and transaction entry in Quick Books
• Daily collaboration with project managers and estimators to keep jobs on budget and billed correctly
• Sales/use tax, multi‑state compliance, and year‑end prep for outside CPA

• 5+ years of construction‑specific accounting experience — concrete subcontractor or commercial GC background strongly preferred
• Deep experience with job costing, subcontract billing, retainage, change orders, and percentage-of-completion
• Proven track record forecasting and managing cash flow in construction
• Expert‑level Quick Books Desktop
• Advanced Excel (pivots, lookups, forecasting models)
• Self‑motivated with strong ownership mentality
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance preferred; CPA or CCIFP a plus and paid at top of range

• Experience with Company Cam, Procore, Foundation, Viewpoint, GCPay, Textura, etc.
• Prevailing wage / multi‑state project experience
• Spanish language skills

• $65,000 – $85,000 base
