Contracts and Grants Specialist
Wichita State University – Wichita, KS
Job OverviewThis role provides comprehensive pre‑award support for grant and contract applications, ensuring compliance with sponsor, university, state and federal regulations. The Specialist develops, implements and oversees pre‑award functions, collaborates with faculty and staff, and supports research and projects that benefit the community and the state.
Responsibilities- Write, review and negotiate contracts, grants, and other sponsored awards.
- Assemble and submit proposals on behalf of the University.
- Deliver education and guidance to faculty, research staff, departments and administrators in developing competitive proposals and award administration.
- Research and facilitate compliance with university, state and federal laws, policies and regulations in the daily operations of the contract and/or grant lifecycle.
- Advise leadership regarding potential conflicts of interest and time and dispute resolutions.
- Assist with the production of reports, proposals and analyses for the University and for federal, state, educational and other funding and regulatory agencies.
- Collect and prepare required documentation for proposals and contracts.
- Develop and review budget pertaining to the sponsored awards.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six years of experience in proposal development, research compliance, contract drafting or related field.
- Thirty hours of college coursework in accounting, finance or business can be substituted for one year of experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in negotiation and contract negotiation techniques and proposal and budget development.
- Computer proficiencies: word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and other electronic communication.
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and maintain high output when working autonomously.
- Excellent customer service, multi‑tasking and prioritizing skills.
- Advanced grammar and writing, excellent verbal, interpersonal, analytical and communication skills.
- Export Compliance Requirement:
Access to EAR/ITAR controlled technologies; U.S. citizenship required. - Work schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, on‑site.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position and operate a computer and office equipment.
- Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
