JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the classroom Teacher in implementing weekly lessons and activities, and monitor students' developmental progress.
- Follow posted lesson plans and classroom schedules as directed by the Teacher.
- Participate in planning sessions.
- Record observations related to developmental progress and behavioral concerns as directed by the Teacher.
- Facilitate children's learning through active participation and encouragement.
- Assist children with feeding, changing, and other care needs.
- Supervise playground activities.
Parent Communication
- Maintain positive and open relationships with families.
- Greet parents by name upon arrival and departure.
- Reinforce daily successes and positive behaviors with parents and children.
- Document behavioral concerns and communicate them to the classroom teacher.
- Redirect parent concerns to the appropriate staff members.
Classroom Organization
- Manage classroom supplies and equipment safely and organized.
- Complete attendance and food service records as required.
- Maintain a conducive environment for smooth transitions and independent learning.
- Keep storage areas tidy.
- Follow cleaning schedules and maintain displays of children's work in an orderly manner.
Maintain a Safe, Secure, and Clean Environment
- Lift and carry children as needed.
- Follow guidelines for food service, cleanup, and storage.
- Complete accident/incident reports promptly and communicate with parents.
- Support discipline practices aligned with YMCA policies and KDHE regulations.
- Follow individual behavior plans for children.
- Report injuries and suspected child abuse or neglect immediately.
- Assist with toilet training and during accidents.
- Help set up and supervise meals and snacks, including family-style food service.
- Sanitize tables and floors after meals or snacks.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
- Follow dress code and maintain appropriate attendance.
- Maintain confidentiality with all sensitive information.
- Model the four Character Development aspects:
Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Caring. - Complete required inservice hours as per KDHE and staff requests.
- Understand and adhere to program philosophies, policies, procedures, and goals.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of program management experience; social service or behavior management experience preferred.
- CPR, AED, First Aid, and O2 certifications or obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Attend NEO within 30 days of hire.
- At least 6 months of experience working in licensed child care.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Effective communication skills (visual, auditory, verbal).
- Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
- Ability to bend, squat, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Perform light physical activities.
- Maintain a positive, encouraging environment and a professional appearance.
