**## Goucher College Since its founding in 1885, Goucher College has fostered a spirit of curiosity and discovery. As a private, non-profit liberal arts college of approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 700 graduate students, Goucher is dedicated to preparing students to think critically, engage across disciplines, and contribute meaningfully to a rapidly changing world. Small class sizes, a rigorous curriculum, and dedicated faculty and staff allow for personalized mentorship of each student.
Named one of the most innovative colleges in the country by U.S. News & World Report, Goucher is a leader in global education and was one of the first, and remains one of the only, colleges in the U.S. to provide 100% of its students with the opportunity to study abroad at no additional charge.##
Job Description The Environmental Studies Department at Goucher College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice in Environmental Studies (a full-time, non-tenure track position), beginning in August 2026, focused on the scientific dimensions of environmental problems. The review of applications will begin on January 19, 2026. A Ph.D. in environmental science or a closely related scientific discipline, along with prior teaching experience, is required by the time of appointment.
The program at Goucher is interdisciplinary, and we seek candidates who can help students foster their collaborative skills across disciplinary lines. We seek an enthusiastic, student-oriented colleague with demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching. The ideal candidate will have completed coursework and research that utilize scientific approaches to address environmental problems. We are particularly interested in candidates who can deepen our students’ understanding of the interactions between humans and natural systems through active and experiential learning techniques in laboratory- and field-based environmental studies courses.
Teaching responsibilities include an introductory environmental science lecture and laboratory course, applied statistics, an upper-level elective on a specific science-based topic, and a problem-based course that strengthens non-science students’ ability to understand and apply the Scientific Method. In addition, we seek a colleague who will mentor undergraduate students in their interdisciplinary capstone research projects and provide service to the department.
The teaching load is 24 credits (3/3).## Requirements Candidates must have a Ph.D. in environmental science or a closely related scientific discipline by the time of appointment and at least one year of college-level teaching experience as an instructor of record of a lab-based course.
Preference will be given to candidates who have (1) demonstrated experience in active and experiential learning and in applying pedagogical techniques with students from a wide range of backgrounds, and (2) demonstrated commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to understanding environmental issues.## ## Salary range## $58,000-$62,000## Application Instruction Interested candidates should submit the following materials:
* A curriculum vitae
* A cover letter that contextualizes the candidate’s research and teaching interests
* A statement of teaching philosophy in which the candidate speaks to their pedagogical approaches to instruction, classroom and laboratory practices and strategies, and their ability to teach students from a wide range of backgrounds in a liberal arts college setting
* Contact information for three references. Recommendation letters will be solicited if selected for an interview.
The review of applications will begin on January 19, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled.
