Description
Job Title: QBI Intervention Specialist - Behavioral Health School Liaison
Position Function: The QBI Intervention Specialist will collaborate with educators in effecting positive behavior change in students by developing interventions, utilizing ACHIEVE resources, working with students who have violated the student code of conduct, connecting school/home/community in designing plans for support and working with staff in tracking data of students both behaviorally and academically.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates a strong foundation in positive behavior supports
- Designs and implements multi-faceted behavior interventions based on data
- Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with parents and professionals
- Ability to collaborate with all members of the school community
- Demonstrates confidentiality when dealing with students, parents, and school employees
- Understands and works with the various support systems available in the school and community
- Understands and follows district policies and guidelines when dealing with violations of the student code of conduct
- Understands Special Education regulations including the Least Restrictive Behavior Intervention
- Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle emotionally charged situations
- Ability to coach others to apply effective behavior management techniques
Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Occasional visits to students’ homes will be required in order to collect social history and complete paperwork with a student’s family.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Must be able to walk long distances, respond rapidly in emergency situations, stand for long periods of time, bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps, reach overhead, lift, push, pull up to 20 pounds or more with assistance, work five days a week, up to seven hours or more per day, or as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven use of effective collaboration skills
- Proficient oral and written communication skills required
- Proficient personal relationship skills
- Extensive knowledge and experience working with students who demonstrate the need for intensive services
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing and delivering training to meet the targeted needs of the identified audience
- Proficient problem solving skills
- Demonstrated acumen in completing tasks and dealing with situations related to the essential functions of the position
- Extensive knowledge and practice setting up structured environments
- Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
- Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in either Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related subject required
- 2-3 Years experience in K-12 Education setting preferred
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Specifics:
- Coaching and consulting staff in implementing behavioral interventions such as, but not limited to:
- Prevention of escalated behaviors
- Responses to escalated behaviors
- De-escalation strategies and techniques
- Monitor staff fidelity to Behavior Intervention Plans. This will include the following:
- Data Collection
- Follow-up coaching on ways to improve fidelity of Behavior Intervention Plans
- Giving staff (classified and certified) guidance on how to improve fidelity of Behavior Intervention Plans
- Model intervention procedures and techniques for staff
- Observe staff implementing interventions for procedural accuracy. This will include:
- Providing feedback on intervention procedures outlined in Behavior Intervention Plans
- Guiding staff to improve implementation and fidelity to intervention procedures
