Rapid Prototyping Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Rapid Prototyping Engineer to support design and prototyping of various embedded systems for iterative testing and refinement.

The ideal candidate will combine expertise in embedded prototyping, rapid hardware prototyping including 3D printing and CNC, wireless communications, and basic RF and power circuit designs. This position is perfect for someone passionate about designing rapid and iterative prototypes for cutting-edge RF and communication technologies.

• Perform low quantity prototyping of small electromechanical systems, including enclosures, antenna assemblies, mounts, and rack-based computer systems.
• Evaluate material, finish, and subcomponent options based on provided requirements, providing recommendations for optimal performance.
• Work with machinists and technicians to operate lab equipment including mills, laths, 3D printers, and PCB printing equipment.
• Support demonstrations of prototypes to end users, gathering feedback to be translated into subsequent implementation requirements.

Minimum:

• Formal education in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and/or Computer Science, or a suitable mix of education and work experience.
• Experience with small scale prototyping equipment including 3D printers and CNC mills/lathes
• Experience with in-house or external small scale PCB manufacturing
• Experience with embedded platforms such as Nvidia Jetson, Beagle board, or Raspberry Pi
• Experience with basic power circuitry design
• Experience with basic soldering

Preferred:

• Experience with designing or leveraging SoC/SoM systems for edge data processing and communications systems
• Experience with mesh networking or satellite communications
• Demonstrated track record of project-oriented prototyping culminating in a working prototype for user demonstration
• Experience with RF and telecommunication systems (Bluetooth, Wifi, Cellular etc.)
• Knowledge of theory underlying telecommunications and radar technologies.
