This position is in Cargill's food and bioindustrial business, where manufacturers, retailers, and food service companies rely on us to consistently deliver the products and services they need, and use our technical expertise and market knowledge to develop innovative products.

Job Purpose and Impact

You will join our R&D center in Baupte which is dedicated to the improvement of processes and products.

The products are polysaccharides derived from plant materials or obtained by fermentation.

In this context, the position is the technical referent specialized in the fundamentals principles of fermentation and transformation of biopolymers and is responsible to lead projects in the field to improve process or new product developments as project manager and / or technical lead in the Food Innovation Hydrocolloids and System Team.

Implement your depth knowledge to leverage and to support technology innovation for new product developments to create business case opportunities and directly contributes to the innovation pipeline / portfolio of Food Hydrocolloids (Seaweed, Bio Polymers and Fruit Polysaccharides). Develop strong business / customer understanding to ultimately influence / drive and create business opportunities.

Leads and motivates cross functional teams (operation, manufacturing technology, quality, product line, commercial team, technical service team).

Train and update technical knowledge to the technicians in the field of Fermentation and Biopolymers in terms of origin, structure, properties and applications.

Key Accountabilities
  • Define, design, prioritize and perform laboratory work by developing protocols for fermentation and hydrocolloid processing at the pilot/laboratory scale and assuring that these protocols are adapted to the operation conditions at plant scale.
  • Lead projects as project manager and / or technical lead.
  • Write detailed technical reports for each practical work done.
  • Be the contact person to support FI PPD H&S Process development team in the field of fermentation or biopolymers.
  • Keep update knowledge by making regular bibliographic survey and reviewing scientific publications in academic books or journals in the field of biopolymers, microbiology to support and contribute actively with innovative ideas.
  • Recognize patterns and trends in food hydrocolloids business to ultimately influence / drive and create new business opportunities in the field of fermentation of hydrocolloids.
  • Develop scientific network outside Cargill.
  • Contribute and comply with Cargill rules on EHS (environment, health and safety) by understanding and applying policies, safety team motivation for the technician.
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of technicians in food safety.
  • Train and accompany the arrival of new collaborators in the team (temporary, trainees and permanent staff). Ensure proper understanding of procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bac +5 with minimal 5 years of experience in the field of bio fermentation / microbiology.
  • Knowledge of EHS rules (environment, hygiene, safety), rheology and food chemistry.
  • Knowledge / basics in project management.
  • Food industrial science technology.
  • Intellectual property knowledge.
  • Fluent in English and French.
