This is a full-time position working 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.

The Direct Underwriter I role is primarily responsible for delivering exceptional service to both internal and external members. The position involves evaluating loan applications, conducting thorough reviews, and making timely, well-informed lending decisions.

• Review and render decisions on direct loan applications, ensuring adherence to established service level agreements (SLAs).
• Analyze credit reports, financial ratios, and other relevant data to support sound lending decisions.
• Assess applicant and co-applicant eligibility based on membership criteria, credit policies, and product guidelines.
• Detect and appropriately manage potentially fraudulent applications.
• Support portfolio management strategies to maintain target goals for Weighted Average Rate (WAR) and delinquency.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with internal loan officers regarding underwriting decisions, approval conditions, credit reports, and applicable federal regulations.
• Evaluate supporting documentation such as tax returns, pay stubs (including tip income and shift differentials), and other financial records to ensure accuracy and completion.
• Actively engage in personal and professional development, embracing coaching and feedback.
• Build strong relationships with teammates, credit union staff through effective and respectful communication.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and decision making while adhering to lending compliance standards and mitigating risk.
• Represent the credit union positively through professional appearance and courteous demeanor.
• Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters related to the credit union, its members, and dealership partners.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Direct Lending Manager or Senior Direct Underwriter.
