Export Compliance Requirement

This position requires access to EAR or ITAR controlled technologies. Applicants must be eligible for employment under U.S. export control laws and must meet the requirement of being a “U.S. Citizen”.

Job Story

The WSU Police Department has an opening for a part time/on-call dispatcher. Transmits and receives law enforcement and public safety staff communications in accordance with government regulations. Monitors, documents and reports all activities as required. Communicates information and services with general public.

Job Duties
  • Answers incoming communications for all emergency and non-emergency calls, maintains control of conversations prior to emergency response team arrival; determines appropriate level of emergency response services based on available information and applicable laws and regulations; communicates general law enforcement information, university policies, parking regulations, weather conditions, and public record releases.
  • Transmits or communicates information to appropriate emergency staff, agencies, and communication systems utilizing appropriate terms and effective response techniques; acts as emergency information and security backup according to required regulations.
  • Maintains accurate law enforcement records, incident documentation, and officer location and activity status in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and University policy.
  • Receives and responds to emergency communications during and after disaster incidents and other extreme conditions; monitors and efficiently responds to security alarms and other emergency notifications; receives and relays requests for emergency repairs and maintenance utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Processes law enforcement requests to check for warrants, driver status, previous convictions and criminal history.
Required Education

Additional Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certifications within six (6) months of hire date.
  • U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

Emergency Dispatch experience preferred.

Additional Information for Posting

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position.

  • Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
