Medical Laboratory Scientist

Overview

Pride Health is hiring a Medical Lab Scientist to support our client’s medical facility in Wichita, KS 67214. This is a 3-month assignment with the possibility of a contract-to-hire opportunity.

Base pay range: $30.00/hr - $39.00/hr

Schedule:

1st shift. Mon – Fri. 6:00 am – 2:30 pm

Duration: 3 Months+

The salary is determined by an individual’s level of experience and any relevant licenses or certifications they may hold.

• Determine specimen acceptability for testing based on established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex laboratory tests following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to maintain proper functionality.
• Make technical decisions regarding test procedures and problem-solving.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and quality control materials.
• Accurately report timely test results to support quality patient care;
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
• Assist in specimen processing when required.
• Maintain a safe work environment by following safety protocols and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or equivalent (meeting local regulatory requirements such as CLIA & State).
• Minimum 2–4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• State Medical Technologist license (if required by the role).
• ASCP or AMT certification preferred or required depending on job specifications.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Proficiency with computers; familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to pass a standardized color vision screening.
• Flexibility to work overtime or varied shifts based on business needs.
• Educational prerequisite:
  Minimum 12 credit hours in Biology and 12 credit hours in Chemistry for candidates with MLT, MT, or Bachelor of Science degrees.

• Proficient in reading and interpreting culture plates across diverse specimen types and culture media.
• Hands-on experience with multiple diagnostic instruments, including operation of Soft Lab System for specimen processing and workflow management.
• Extensive experience performing and interpreting PCR testing for pathogen identification and resistance markers.
• Strong understanding of microbiological culture techniques, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and molecular diagnostics.
