Patient Assistance Counselor
The Cancer Center of Kansas (CCK), part of The US Oncology Network, is seeking a full‑time, on‑site Patient Assistance Counselor to join our team in Wichita, KS offices. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM with no major holidays, no on‑call and no weekends.
OverviewUnder general supervision, this role is responsible for assessment of patient financial requirements, counseling patients on insurance benefits and co‑payments, and assisting patients with applications for drug reimbursement, copay, and foundation assistance. The candidate will order and track drug received for patients approved for assistance, file claims to foundations and copay programs, and support compliance with the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

- Assist all patients that do not have insurance or have limited coverage in obtaining financial assistance (e.g., Project Access, drug replacement, or co‑pay assistance), outside assistance (e.g., transportation), and all appropriate forms.
- Coordinate with the patient and provider to obtain all information and signatures for drug reimbursement requirements per manufacturer/program.
- Upload or fax applications and the pertinent financial forms (along with the physician’s signature and the prescription) required for assistance to the manufacturer/program.
- Collaborate with the treatment authorization team to identify patients in need of assistance and notify them once approvals are in place.
- Utilize the Summary of Patient Reimbursement and Liability form and obtain appropriate approvals as required.
- Perform financial counseling on all patients prior to treatment, which includes patient financial obligations, billing practices, and establishing payment arrangements.
- Document the financial counseling process.
- Order and track all approved drugs for patients according to their schedule.
- Assist in maintaining manuals, logs, and other required documentation as required.
- Communicate with pharmaceutical companies’ Field Reimbursement Managers to stay up to date on program changes.
- Demonstrate an understanding for patient confidentiality to protect the patient and the clinic/corporation.
- Follow policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the front office.
- Covers for and assists with other front office functions as requested.
- Attend required, applicable meetings.
- Remain current on all compliance requirements.
- Ensure all applicable policies and procedures of the company and Network are followed.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned, including coverage within the department.

Qualifications- High school degree or equivalent required.
- Minimum three (3) years medical insurance verification and authorization required.
Physically demands include presence at the site during regular business hours, sitting or standing, talking or hearing, handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, standing and walking for extensive periods, occasionally lifting items up to 40 lbs., and corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Work EnvironmentWork performed in a medical office environment with frequent interaction with staff and physicians. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment may occur.
