The Cancer Center of Kansas (CCK) is seeking a full‑time, on‑site Patient Assistance Counselor to join our team in our Wichita, KS offices. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM with no major holidays, no on‑call and no weekends.

What does this position entail?

Under general supervision, this role is responsible for assessment of patient financial requirements, counseling patients on insurance benefits and co‑payments as well as assisting patients with applications for drug reimbursement, copay, and foundation assistance. Orders and track drug received for patients approved for assistance, file claims to foundations and copay programs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Assist all patients that do not have insurance or patients with a limited coverage policy in obtaining financial assistance (i.e. Project Access, drug replacement or co‑pay assistance), outside assistance (i.e. transportation or other community services), and all appropriate forms.
  • Coordinate with the patient and provider to obtain all information and signatures for drug reimbursement requirements per manufacture/program.
  • Upload or fax all applications and the pertinent financial forms (along with the physician’s signature and the prescription) required for assistance to the manufacture/program.
  • Collaborate with the treatment authorization team to identify patients in need of assistance and notify them once approvals are in place.
  • Utilize the Summary of Patient Reimbursement and Liability form and obtain appropriate approvals as required.
  • Perform financial counseling process on all patients prior to treatment, which includes patient financial obligations, billing practices and establishing payment arrangements.
  • Document financial counseling process.
  • Order and track all approved drugs for patients according to their schedule.
  • Assist in maintaining manuals, logs and other required documentation as required.
  • Communicate with pharmaceutical companies Field Reimbursement Managers to stay up to date on program changes.
  • Demonstrate an understanding for patient confidentiality to protect the patient and the clinic/corporation.
  • Follow policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the front office. Cover for and assist with other front office functions as requested.
  • Attend required, applicable meetings.
  • Remain current on all compliance requirements.
  • Ensure all applicable policies and procedures of the company and Network are followed.
  • Other duties as requested or assigned including coverage within the department.
  • Perform other tasks as reasonably requested by a provider or member of the Management Team, as applicable to the role.
