- Conduct 83, 86, or 90 direct client service hours per month (full‑time) or dedicate 60% of hours (part‑time).
- Create a safe client environment by performing all required security and safety procedures.
- Assist clients in orientation to program rules/structure and treatment goals.
- Submit written incident reports for unusual client behaviors or activities.
- Administer comprehensive drug and alcohol screenings, assessments, and evaluations, and assist in determining appropriate consequences and learning experiences.
- Coordinate client services ranging from assessment and treatment planning through discharge and aftercare.
- Recruit speakers, prepare presentations, and obtain films or other materials to enhance client understanding.
- Identify and make referrals to other services as needed.
- Present educational lectures to help clients develop ongoing treatment and recovery plans.
- Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions that promote positive interaction and cohesiveness among clients.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients.
- Prioritize identified problems, establish goals and objectives, utilize available resources and reach decisions appropriate for client treatment planning.
- Assist clients in decision making by promoting positive attitudes, self‑awareness, change, and building self‑esteem.
- Educate, coach, and guide clients through cognitive and behavioral skills such as thinking reports, DBT, RET, step work, etc.
- Use diagnostic interviews, behavioral observations, and client reports to assess strengths and weaknesses for treatment planning.
- Document treatment goals and progress and complete all required treatment documentation in accordance with program and state guidelines.
- Consult with staff and other professionals before implementing recommendations.
- Communicate effectively with staff and community members.
- Submit information to referral sources and ancillary service providers as requested.
- Complete pre‑employment drug screening, background screening, fingerprint‑based records search, and reference checks.
- Maintain annual background screening and participate in ongoing random drug and alcohol testing.
- Prior experience in behavioral health or addictions treatment (preferred).
- Detailed understanding of core competencies and treatment model utilized.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or an approved alternative.
- Compliance with the board’s ethical practice and continuing education requirements.
- CPR, AIDS In‑Service hours, annual TB testing with negative result (residential programs only).
- Licensed Addictions Counselor license in Kansas (LMAC preferred).
- Valid state driver’s license, automobile liability insurance, and maintain an MVR that meets DCCCA insurability standard.
- Reliable transportation.
- Proficiency with computers and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proficiency in operating office equipment such as email systems, calculators, copiers, fax machines, telephones, voicemail, and scanners.
- Strong computer knowledge and proficiency with computerized database programs, spreadsheets, word‑processing, and email systems.
- Effective listening, oral, and written communication skills, including face‑to‑face, on‑site, and in‑person discussions.
