Job StoryThe AMP Lab is seeking a student assistant to support digital system development and data automation initiatives. The position focuses on creating lightweight programming scripts, automating data workflows, and maintaining internal web-based dashboards to improve project visibility and efficiency.
Job SummaryA student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties- Write and test basic scripting or query logic (e.g., SQL, Python, or similar languages) to extract, organize, and display production and project data for reporting dashboards.
- Support the design and content maintenance of internal web pages and digital dashboards that communicate project metrics and documentation updates.
- Develop and maintain Excel-based tools with VBA macros to automate repetitive data entry, analysis, and report generation.
- Collaborate with engineers and staff to identify and automate manual data processes.
- Create and update technical documentation, including code comments, data mapping, and workflow instructions.
- Provide general support for data migration, troubleshooting, and digital system improvements as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent
Additional Requirements- Current enrollment in a degree program related to Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology, or a related field at Wichita State University.
- Basic proficiency in programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL, or VBA).
- Strong understanding of data organization and logic-based problem solving.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience writing macros or formulas.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Experience in web development (HTML, CSS, or low-code website builders).
- Familiarity with database queries or data visualization tools.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to phones, printers, copiers, and calculators.
- Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
