DutiesAssistant United States Attorneys in the Criminal Division represent the United States in both the U.S. District Courts and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in all cases involving violations of federal criminal statutes. Primary areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the prosecution of complex drug trafficking crimes, transnational organized crime, violent crime, firearms offenses, immigration offenses, and economic crimes such as wire fraud, mail fraud, and bank fraud.
The Criminal Division AUSAs routinely lead cases from investigation, through charging, pretrial litigation, trial, sentencing, and appeal. Our team works closely with federal, state, and local investigative agencies to disrupt serious criminal threats facing our community.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Conditions of Employment- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
- Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district specific information.
Required Qualifications:
- Applicant must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
- United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Felony jury trial experience.
- Superior analytical ability, strong research, writing, and courtroom skills, independent fair and sound judgment, adherence to DOJ and Attorney’s Office policies.
- Ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, and law enforcement agencies; professional and effective interaction with opposing counsel; persuasive and just handling of matters in court.

Assistant United States Attorney’s pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience.
