We are looking for an experienced and self‑motivated individual to fill the position of Chemist within our Technology organization. The work location is at our Technology Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Job Duties
  • Maintain, as our highest priority, the protection of the environment, the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products.
  • Provide attention to detail, and dedication to work in order to ensure reliability of the work site as well as high quality product.
  • Ensure that you and others are respected, supported and encouraged to grow and succeed in their job.
  • Provide qualitative and quantitative analytical services, including new or enhanced test procedures or processes, as required by manufacturing, marketing, technical services, or Oxy Chem Technical Center staff.
  • Coordinate with vendors, customers, technical resources and field test sites to accomplish goals.
  • Plan, design, initiate and complete analytical or research projects to facilitate problem solving for manufacturing, marketing, technical services, or Oxy Chem Technical Center staff.
  • Participate in special projects including serving on committees, and other activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate impact of changing technologies and markets in selected areas of interest to Oxy Chem and make recommendations as to appropriate options.
  • Determine lab equipment and instrumentation needs for routine or project lab work. Ensure availability and reliability of equipment through routine maintenance, repairs, modifications and design of equipment.
  • Produce clear, concise, accurate, and timely written and oral reports in which conclusions and recommendations are effectively supported by analytical and/or research data and supporting literature.
  • Participate in the Wichita Plant process safety programs to complete Process Hazard Analysis, to complete the Management of Change requirements, and to investigate process safety incidents. Ensure process safety information is current and accurate for the physical assets (P&IDs), for the process conditions (PFDs), for the process chemistry (MSDSs), and for the technician-process activities (procedures and work instructions.)
Qualifications - External
  • BS or MS Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other related technical discipline
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an analytical laboratory
  • Must have knowledge of fundamental chemical principles, laboratory practices, laboratory safety and associated computer support systems.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to handle multiple complex issues at the same time.
