Job Summary:
To analyze, troubleshoot and repair malfunctions on a wide variety of advanced technology machine tools and electronically controlled plant equipment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Independently diagnoses and repairs unusual and difficult electronic, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical malfunctions of computer‑controlled electronics and subsystems. Regularly uses a wide variety of test equipment including oscilloscopes, frequency counters, function generators, stroboscopes, laser measurement equipment, voltmeters and ammeters for machine diagnoses and repair.
- Becomes thoroughly familiar with and adheres to machine operation and adjustment procedures, lubrication and alignment requirements, and preventive maintenance instructions. Adjusts, calibrates and verifies operational performance of subsystems and their integration with other systems.
- Assists in developing and performing preventive maintenance, including periodic inspection, testing and servicing of machines. Maintains documentation and service records as required.
- Works with equipment manufacturer's service personnel during installation, alignment, calibration, repair or modification of machines.
- Guides and instructs one or two lower‑grade employees.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education:
Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or bronze level Work Keys certification and two years of specialized training in mechanical/electronics repair. Requires a thorough understanding of a broad range of electronic, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic principles and their application to machine tools and factory equipment. Must be competent in the use of blueprint and schematic materials and in using a wide range of appropriate machine diagnostic equipment.
Experience:
Requires over five years of service experience with complex automated equipment that utilizes combinations of computer, electronic, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical components.
Working Conditions:
Somewhat disagreeable due to temperatures, dust, machinery‑related fluids and uncomfortable working positions.
