The Graduate Student Assistant for Communications and Marketing will play a vital role in supporting the College of Applied Studies’ communications and marketing efforts. This position offers a valuable opportunity for hands‑on experience in various aspects of communications and marketing. The successful candidate will work closely with the communications and marketing team to execute strategies that enhance the college's brand, engage its audience, and promote its programs and initiatives.
Job Summary
A Graduate Staff Assistant (GSA) assists university service and academic units in either non‑teaching or non‑research activities. Specific duties of the GSA vary widely, depending on the administrative or academic unit to which they are assigned, but should be at a level to make use of their education and abilities.
Job Duties
Assist in developing engaging content for various communication channels, including social media, newsletters, website, promotional materials, and more.
Assist in attending events or planned photoshoots to capture photos and video content. Basic photo and video editing.
Contribute to the planning and execution of social media campaigns to increase brand awareness, engagement, and followership across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Linked In.
Create visually appealing graphics, infographics, and other design assets to support marketing campaigns and communication materials.
Complete University web training sessions, assist with website maintenance, design and editing.
Draft compelling copy for emails, social media posts, articles, and other communication channels, adhering to brand voice and messaging guidelines. Assist in writing for internal and external news outlets (newsletter items, press releases).
Provide promotional support for college events, including virtual and in‑person seminars, workshops, and information sessions.
Conduct research to identify trends, competitors, and opportunities in the higher education landscape, informing marketing strategies and decision‑making.
Assist in tracking and analyzing the performance of initiatives via social media analytics and email marketing platforms. Prepare regular reports with key insights and recommendations for optimization.
Provide general administrative support to the Communications and Marketing team, including scheduling meetings, organizing files, and responding to inquiries.

Required Experience
To be eligible for an assistantship, students must be admitted to a degree program in either full or conditional standing. Students admitted on probation or placed on academic probation following admission may be eligible for assistantship awards under certain circumstances.

Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
