Job Summary and Qualifications

The Labor and Delivery unit delivers approximately 350 babies per month and cares for 700‑900 outpatients per month, focusing on high‑risk labor for women ages 14‑55. Over 70% of LDR nurses hold national nursing certifications, and the unit underwent remodeling completed in Spring 2023. Responsibilities include delivering patient-centered nursing care, evaluating quality of nursing practice, collaborating across disciplines, and contributing to performance improvement initiatives while adhering to the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and Wesley Medical Center standards.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient-centered nursing care in accordance with standards of care.
  • Systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice through quality-of-care activities and process improvements.
  • Maintain current knowledge in nursing practice and education.
  • Monitor patient progress toward desired outcomes.
  • Contribute to the professional development of peers and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and providers to advocate for patient care.
  • Consider safety and cost effectiveness when delivering care.
  • Make ethical decisions and actions on behalf of patients.
  • Participate in improving operational functions of the department.
  • Establish effective and respectful communication in all collaborative relationships.
  • Engage in opportunities for outstanding service to customers and partners.
  • Apply knowledge of age-appropriate competencies to the department’s specific population.
  • Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and access appropriate resources in inpatient scenarios.
  • Secure, administer, and handle medication according to established guidelines.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current licensure in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse (RN) or current multi-state licensure as an RN.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
