The Psychiatry Clinic Nurse is an integral member of the UKSM-W MPA Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences Clinic team, providing direct patient care, clinical support, and care coordination to ensure safe, efficient clinic operations and high-quality behavioral health services. This position partners closely with psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, therapists, and support staff to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in an outpatient psychiatric setting while fostering a welcoming and professional environment for patients and families.
Key responsibilities include conducting nursing assessments, obtaining and documenting vital signs and other clinical information in the electronic health record, administering medications and long-acting injectable treatments as ordered by providers, monitoring patient response to treatment, providing patient education, and supporting daily clinic workflows. The Psychiatric Clinic Nurse also assists with medication management, including refill requests, patient follow-up, and monitoring for medication adherence and potential side effects.
The nurse serves as a vital link between patients and providers by triaging patient concerns, coordinating care, facilitating communication, obtaining prior authorizations, coordinating referrals, and assisting with transitions of care. Additional responsibilities include supporting patients with completion of required forms and documentation, including Release of Information (ROI) requests, coordinating medical records requests, and ensuring compliance with clinic policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices in behavioral health care.
Success in this role requires strong clinical judgment, exceptional communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations. The ideal candidate demonstrates empathy, maintains patient confidentiality, works effectively within an interdisciplinary team, and is committed to promoting recovery, wellness, and positive outcomes for individuals receiving psychiatric and behavioral health services.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONSCertificates & Licenses:
- Current State of KS Nursing License (LPN) & BLS Certification required
Education: Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required
Experience:
- One to two years related psychiatric experience and injection experience preferred
