Advanced Nurse Practitioner​/Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner; annex - Orthopaedics; AA)

We are looking to appoint an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP), or an experienced Nurse Practitioner progressing toward advanced practice, to join our established ANP team within the Orthopaedic Department. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to advance their career in a dynamic and fast paced environment, gaining experience across both trauma and elective orthopaedic pathways. The post offers exposure to a wide range of ANP‑led services and the chance to contribute to innovative models of care.

As a senior clinical practitioner, you will provide expert assessment, decision‑making, and management for patients across the Orthopaedic unit. Your role will be central to enhancing patient care, supporting safe and effective service delivery, and improving patient flow in line with national standards.

You will work across the Fife Elective Orthopaedic Centre, Orthopaedic trauma wards, and the dedicated hip fracture ward alongside the Ortho‑geriatric Consultant. The post also supports the outpatient arthroplasty pathway, including identifying suitable candidates for same‑day arthroplasty.

Our ANPs are integral senior members of the Orthopaedic Team, delivering high quality, clinically effective care using advanced skills and knowledge. Working within the new National Treatment Centre provides a unique opportunity to practise autonomously within an ANP‑led unit. This innovative workforce model has significantly contributed to meeting national targets and improving patient experience.

You will bring experience in delivering safe, effective care and working collaboratively across professional and organisational boundaries. This includes close partnership with acute and primary care teams, medical staff, allied health professionals, and senior management. You will provide direct patient management alongside senior medical staff, demonstrating strong clinical knowledge and highly developed decision‑making skills in acute care. The ability to prioritise a fluctuating workload, work flexibly, and adapt within a busy environment is essential.

You should be an ANP or Nurse Practitioner who, within your professional boundaries, can provide comprehensive care from initial history taking and clinical assessment through to diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation. You will demonstrate safe clinical judgement and deliver expert patient care.

The role includes responsibility for teaching, supervising, assessing, and mentoring others, as well as planning, prioritising, and delegating work. You will contribute across all four Pillars of Practice and maintain effective professional relationships within the multidisciplinary team.

Applicants must hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Practice and demonstrate clear evidence of clinical competence. We also welcome applications from Nurse Practitioners currently working toward the PGDip. Ideally, candidates will already have completed the Advanced Clinical Assessment and Decision‑Making module and/or Non‑Medical Prescribing at SCQF Level 11.

Candidates who have not yet completed the full PGDip will be supported through funded study, allocated study leave, and guidance from our dedicated Lead for Advanced Practice. Upon successful completion, the postholder will transition into a fully qualified ANP role.

Trainees are paid a percentage of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate which is dependent on the duration of the training period (see annex 21 Terms and Conditions).
