Position Description

At CGI, you’ll be part of a team delivering large-scale digital transformation that directly impacts how vital national services operate. As a Python Developer, you will contribute to a major modernisation programme for a key UK government organisation, helping upgrade and future‑proof critical platforms used at national scale. You’ll work on high-value solutions that balance innovation with reliability, using modern cloud technologies to deliver measurable outcomes.

In an environment that encourages ownership, creativity and collaboration, you’ll be trusted to make decisions, supported to grow your skills, and empowered to shape solutions that matter.

CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant.

Join us and you’ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We’ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to either hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a mainly remote role with occasional travel as required.

Your future duties and responsibilities

In this role, you will design, build and enhance modern cloud-based services as part of a large-scale upgrade programme supporting a nationally significant government platform. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver resilient, scalable solutions that meet evolving user and business needs, while contributing to long‑term platform improvement. You will take ownership of your work from development through to deployment, collaborating in an agile environment where continuous improvement, shared responsibility and technical excellence are actively encouraged and supported.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop & deliver high‑quality Python‑based services within a cloud environment
  • Contribute to the modernisation of legacy systems as part of a large transformation programme
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects and delivery teams to shape effective solutions
  • Build & maintain services using AWS, following secure and scalable design principles
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, testing and automation to improve delivery efficiency
  • Share knowledge, contribute ideas and help improve team practices and standards
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

To be successful, you will have a strong development background and a desire to work on complex, meaningful systems. You may already be working in Python or come from a .NET background with the motivation to develop your Python expertise, supported by a collaborative team and structured learning.

You should have:

  • Commercial experience with Python (or a strong .NET background with willingness to learn Python)
  • Experience building applications within AWS or similar cloud environments
  • Solid understanding of modern software development practices and agile delivery
  • Experience with SQL databases (desirable)
  • Exposure to frontend technologies such as React or Next.js (desirable)

Here, you’ll reach your full potential because you are invited to be an owner from day one as we work together to bring our Dream to life. That’s why we call ourselves CGI Partners rather than employees. We benefit from our collective success and actively shape our company’s strategy and direction.

Your work creates value. You’ll develop innovative solutions and build relationships with teammates and clients while accessing global capabilities to scale your ideas, embrace new opportunities, and benefit from expansive industry and technology expertise.
