A day in the life of a Murphy Site Manager
  • Manage all on-site steel erection activities, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to specification
  • Supervise and coordinate site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards
  • Conduct regular site inspections, toolbox talks, and risk assessments
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders
  • Monitor project progress and report on timelines, costs, and any issues
  • Review technical drawings and ensure installations meet design requirements
  • Resolve on‑site issues quickly to avoid delays
  • Manage site documentation, including permits, reports, and QA records
  • Ensure quality control procedures are followed at all stages

Proven experience and qualifications
  • Proven experience in a Steel Site Manager or similar role within the construction/steel industry
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel erection processes
  • Valid SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certification
  • CSCS card (Black/Gold preferred)
  • First Aid at Work certification (desirable)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong understanding of health & safety regulations
  • Strong team player who works well under pressure
  • Appointed person (A61) – preferred
  • Lifting supervisor
  • Temporary works supervisor
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to travel and work away from home as required
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Profile

Murphy is recruiting for a Site Manager to join our Steel Erecting team, based out of our Warrington office.

The Site Manager (Steel) is responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of structural steel installation projects on‑site. This includes managing teams, ensuring health & safety compliance, coordinating with subcontractors / contractors, and delivering projects on time and within budget.

This is a site‑based role, and the successful candidate must be willing and able to work away from home as required by project locations.
