A highly supportive specialist SEN school in Wigan is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a dedicated staff team committed to delivering personalised education and outstanding outcomes for pupils with additional needs.

The Role - SEN Teaching Assistant

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a broad range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), ADHD, Speech & Communication Needs, and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Working across 1:1 support, small-group interventions, and classroom activities, you will help pupils access learning, build independence, and develop the confidence needed to achieve their individual goals.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will become an integral part of an experienced multidisciplinary team, working closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to deliver personalised interventions. Guided by each pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), you will identify barriers to learning, implement effective support strategies, and celebrate every achievement, no matter how small.

Ideal Candidate - SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Experience working with children or young people desirable
  • Background in SEN, care, support work, youth work, sports coaching, or mentoring advantageous
  • Psychology graduates and graduates from related disciplines encouraged to apply
  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
