About the role

Edstaff are working in partnership with a Specialist provisions school in the Hindley area of Wigan which caters for pupils aged between 11-16 years with Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) and behavioural needs. We are seeking a full-time staff member who is dedicated, passionate, and enthusiastic about working in SEMH and Additional needs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to make a positive impact on students' wellbeing and education.

You will be working closely with pupils who require additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement within the classroom. This is a relationship-led role, ideal for someone who can remain calm, consistent, and patient at all times as well as always being proactive, resilient, and personable. Staff are encouraged to build positive relationships with pupils to create a stable and structured learning environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to behaviour support within a warm and friendly school.

Key responsibilities
  • Deliver lesson material and manage behaviour in the absence of the class teacher
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Implement behaviour strategies and support emotional regulation
  • Monitoring and recording students' progress and wellbeing
  • Promoting a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment
  • Encourage engagement in learning activities
  • To build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Work closely with the class teacher and school SENCo
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists and parents, to meet holistic care goals
Person specification requirements
  • Previous experience as an HLTA or hold a relevant HLTA or equivalent qualification
  • Experience supporting individuals with Social, Emotional, Mental Health or challenging behaviours
  • Previously worked as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Care worker, Support worker or Children's Residential. Volunteering in schools, childcare or SEN Settings.
  • Ability to engage students aged 11-16 years
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Ability to remain consistent and structured
  • Reliable and punctual with a professional attitude
  • Enhanced DBS preferred but not essential
