Job Overview
You'll deliver lessons, assess students' progress and contribute to a learning environment where precision and safety are part of the culture, not just the curriculum. We are looking for experience in PLCs, Engineering Mathematics, and a strong Design Understanding. Plan and deliver lessons across Level 3 to 6 to help students achieve their academic potential and the practical, employability skills they will need for their future careers.
Key Responsibilities- Mark work, give clear feedback, and guide students on how they can improve.
- Use assessment results to shape lessons and support each student’s progress.
- Monitor attendance and promote positive behaviour.
- Keep accurate records of student progress, assessments, and other administrative duties.
- Act as a Personal Tutor when needed, providing pastoral advice and guidance.
- Support induction, record achievements, and help students plan their next steps.
- Take part in Open Evenings, school liaison and activities that promote your subject area.
- Coordinate courses and contribute to departmental initiatives.
- Keep up to date with developments in your subject and best practice in teaching and assessment.
- Degree or vocational qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related area.
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade C or equivalent) – you can obtain this during probation.
- Teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one with our support.
- Up‑to‑date and relevant subject knowledge that you are excited to share with students.
- Confidence with IT and e-learning tools and Information and Learning Technology (ILT) to enhance students’ experience.
- Student‑focused – you take pride in helping students succeed and build confidence.
- Organised – you effectively plan lessons and assessments and manage workload.
- Adaptable – you can respond to changing priorities and work across sites when needed.
- Collaborative – you work well with colleagues to deliver a consistent, high‑quality learning experience.
- Reflective – you actively engage with professional development and want to share best practice.
You could be eligible for a government levelling‑up payment of £2000-£6000 if you teach subjects such as construction, engineering, maths, computing or early years. This applies if you are in your first 5 years of FE teaching and spend at least 50% of your time teaching eligible level 3 (or below) courses. Find out more.
