GCSE Tutor – SEMH Secondary Provision

Full-Time | September Start | Wigan Area | Teaching Personnel

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential? Teaching Personnel is recruiting a full‑time GCSE Tutor for a specialist SEMH secondary provision in the Wigan area, starting in September.

You will support students aged 11–16 with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including Autism, low self-esteem, behavioural challenges, and communication and interaction difficulties. Many pupils have experienced disrupted education and require tailored academic support, consistency, and positive relationships to help them re‑engage with learning and succeed in their GCSE studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality GCSE tuition to individuals and small groups.
  • Support students in core subjects including English, Maths, and Science.
  • Adapt learning resources to suit varying abilities and learning styles.
  • Develop positive, professional relationships with students to encourage engagement.
  • Support pupils in overcoming barriers to learning and achieving academic targets.
  • Track and monitor student progress, providing feedback to the wider school team.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and SEN professionals.
What We're Looking For
  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs.
  • Strong knowledge of the GCSE curriculum.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate learners who may have become disengaged from education.
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.
  • Experience delivering tuition, teaching, mentoring, or educational support.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable but not essential.
