SEN / SEMH / PRU Teachers – September 2026 Start
Choice Teachers are looking to recruit passionate and dedicated teachers to work within SEN Schools, SEMH Schools, PRUs (Pupil Referral Units) and Alternative Provisions across the North West, including Wigan, Bolton, Salford, Warrington and St Helens, in anticipation of the new academic year starting in September 2026.
Whether you are an Early Career Teacher (ECT), an experienced teacher looking for a new challenge, or someone wanting to transition from mainstream into specialist education, we would love to hear from you. Supply teaching within specialist settings is an excellent way to gain valuable experience, explore different schools, and often leads to permanent opportunities.
We are recruiting teachers across all secondary subject specialisms to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including:
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Challenging Behaviour
- Trauma and Attachment Needs
If you teach subjects such as Maths, English, Science, PE, History, Geography, RE, Design Technology, Food Technology, Music, Drama, Health & Social Care, Modern Foreign Languages, Business Studies or ICT, we would love to hear from you.
Choice Teachers can offer full-time, part-time, long-term and flexible day-to-day opportunities to suit your lifestyle and career goals.
Typical school hours are approximately 8:30am – 3:30pm. Planning and marking may be required for longer-term placements. Some schools may also be able to support the completion of your ECT induction, depending on the individual setting.
Responsibilities- Deliver engaging and inclusive lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students who may require additional emotional, behavioural or learning support.
- Adapt teaching strategies to ensure every pupil can access learning and achieve success.
- Maintain high expectations of behaviour whilst using positive behaviour management techniques.
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs and wider multidisciplinary teams.
- Create a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment.
- Demonstrate resilience, patience and flexibility when supporting pupils with complex needs.
- Inspire confidence, encourage progress and celebrate every achievement, no matter how small.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS or a recognised PGCE.
- Experience working within SEN, SEMH, PRU or Alternative Provision is desirable but not essential.
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
- Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
- Two professional references.
- Right to work in the UK.
