Motor vehicle engineering is changing fast.

Students still need the core skills: safe workshop practice, fault-finding, diagnostics, maintenance and repair. But they also need to understand where the industry is heading, including electric vehicles, hybrid technologies and new expectations from employers.

As our Motor Vehicle Engineering Lecturer, you’ll help them build that foundation.

You’ll teach across Motor Vehicle Engineering provision, particularly at Level 1 and Level 2, helping learners develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours they need for further study, apprenticeships and employment.

You may already be an experienced lecturer. You may be an industry professional with strong automotive experience who has trained, coached or supported others and is now ready to move into education.

Either route is welcome.

What matters is that you can bring real motor vehicle engineering experience into the classroom and workshop, explain practical and technical skills clearly, and support learners to grow in confidence.

• Teach Motor Vehicle Engineering across practical and theory-based programmes.
• Deliver learning particularly at Level 1 and Level 2.
• Help students develop technical knowledge, workshop skills and professional behaviours.
• Use your industry experience to make learning current, practical and relevant.
• Demonstrate safe and effective use of tools, equipment and workshop processes.
• Promote high standards of health, safety and professional conduct.
• Assess learner progress and give clear feedback that helps students improve.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment, progress and achievement.
• Support learners to progress into further study, apprenticeships or employment.
• Contribute to curriculum development, including electric and hybrid vehicle technologies.
• Support Open Evenings, recruitment activity and college events where required.

• A relevant qualification in Motor Vehicle Engineering or a related automotive discipline.
• Current or recent industry experience in motor vehicle engineering, automotive maintenance, diagnostics or repair.
• Strong practical and technical knowledge of motor vehicle engineering.
• Experience teaching, training, coaching, mentoring or supporting others.
• A recognised teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
• Level 2 English and maths, or willingness to achieve these within an agreed timeframe.
• Confidence explaining technical concepts clearly to learners.
• Good understanding of workshop practice, safe working and industry standards.
• Experience delivering Level 1 and Level 2 City & Guilds Motor Vehicle programmes would be helpful.
• Knowledge or experience of electric vehicle and hybrid technologies would be an advantage.
